The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University offers a multidimensional model of institutional support for the college's various journals through CLAS Journals and the Scholarly Publishing Certificate Program. CLAS Journals is a university-supported office that provides preproduction services (mostly copyediting and clerical help) for scholarly journals edited by Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty. Staffed largely by graduate students in the Scholarly Publishing Certificate Program, it supports six scholarly journals at this time: Frontiers (Susan Gray and Gayle Gullett are the coeditors), Letras Femeninas (Carmen Urioste), Mathematical Biosciences & Engineering (Yang Kuang), Science & Public Policy (David Guston), Studies in Medieval & Renaissance History (Roger Dahood and Peter Medine), and Western Journal of Communication (Cheree Carlson). The Scholarly Publishing Certificate Program delivers specialized training that prepares students to enter scholarly publishing fields or to engage successfully in publishing activities they will encounter as academic professionals. This collaboration maximizes the resources available to journal editors, helps students to gain experience and build their curricula vitae, and enriches the experience of authors by providing a professional level of copyediting services.
