The Demystified Masthead: Graduate Students in the Journal Office

I will explore the ways in which graduate students benefit from assistantships at scholarly journals and vice versa. Particular emphasis will be placed on how the experience impacts one's own writing and what can be gained from firsthand experience in the editorial office and knowledge of the publication process. "Secrets" will be happily divulged! I will also discuss the ways in which graduate students can help authors, especially younger scholars, navigate the editorial process through attentive email correspondence. (Prior to the CELJ panel, I will chair a special session—"Redlining Research Assistants"—entirely dedicated to the topic of this presentation.)
